Lake Okeechobee Survivor Series

Second Race of the Four Part Lake O Survivor Series Attracts Over 80 Adventure Racers

The Lake O Survivor Series staged its second event April 12. Just over 80 determined contestants ran 4 miles, biked 8 miles, hung on a 200 foot zip line while confronting special challenges and finding 11 checkpoints along the way. All the while Mother Nature did her best to throw her own obstacles into the event: mud, muck, alligators, mid 80 temperatures, and not a breeze in sight. The winning team was Village Bike/Club Scrub. Lead by Jason Willems the team took the lead immediately and never looked back. One of the last challenges involved paddling to an island and retrieving a plant life sample. Observers earlier in the day had counted six alligators in the area. Luckily the gaters did little more than become curious with all the activity in their pond. The racers on the other hand took great notice of the animals while completing their task.

A great time for all, especially since the Black Gold Festival was rolling along at the finish line.

Registration for the third race coming soon.
